5 Toxic Beliefs That Ruin Careers
If you use Voice123 to get voice over jobs, work offline or online, especially in a business that requires auditioning, please read why these 5 Toxic Beliefs can damage your own career:
- My self-worth is based on what others think of me.
- My past equals my future.
- My destiny is controlled by the supernatural.
- My emotions accurately reflect objective reality.
- My goal is to be perfect or do something perfectly.
Please read the reasoning behind each one, and what makes it toxic.
What do you think? Is this useful for your voice over career?

Another belief I’ve seen that is hard for folks to understand is that expecting that something (a person, fashion, or delivery) that is hot today will be hot tomorrow. Don’t make that mistake. Always work on reinventing yourself. That’s the only way you’ll survive.

Steven: thanks so very much for calling attention to this post. I really appreciate it, especially since I have enormous respect for the world of voice-over.

Thanks so much Geoffrey!
I came across that yesterday, and found it to be absolutely wonderful. Voice-over casting can be subjective, and many end their careers simply because they believed something so strongly, it became their reality.
The article is greatly appreciated, and I have it bookmarked for myself and to share with others in the future.
My best to you,
Steven

Those toxic beliefs not only ruin careers, they ruin lives. A great book to read that combats those beliefs is “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. I implore you to read it! Here’s a link to Don http://www.miguelruiz.com/. MTFBWY
